'The convoluted truth', the latest EP from all-around genius Sieren. Having previously served up gorgeous textural electronics for Project:Mooncircle and Finest Ego, the Berliner now focuses his considerable talent on the dancefloor, indulging his hitherto secret passion for techno with five slices of deep, UK bass-inflected experimentation. We're glad he did because it's a beauty.

In switching up the tempo, Sieren's lost none of his characteristic nuance, yet he keeps it lean throughout for maximum impact. Contrasts abound; Reveal layers tense percussion before opening up into an emotive peak-time roller, while Regret's bittersweet keys seem constantly under threat from its marauding bassline. Prism evokes triangulation-era Scuba with its tech-garage patterns and lost-in-the-city vibe, and Mutual Apathy takes things in a moodier direction still. Rounding out the EP, Tetra weaves together electrostatic samples (from a DVB card, no less), curt vocal snatches and mercurial drums to create a woozy tech-step sharpener.
